BIOMETRICS specialist Bionopoly has developed a computer based on a USB flash memory stick.
Its consumer products subsidiary FingerGear's Computer-On-a-Stick, is a 256MB USB flash memory drive with an open-source operating system and office suite that will work on any Intel x86 chip, including all Pentium processors. The company says COS stands alone with its own operating system and does not use or change the host PC's native software.
COS includes a Linux 2.6.x series kernel, a Gnome graphical user interface, a Mozilla Firefox browser, OpenOffice productivity suite, Evolution email, Gaim instant messaging, a PDF creator and viewer and remote access applications.
A 256MB COS is available online for $US149 ($200) in the US, and the company will ship internationally for a minimum order of 10 units.
